Aiight, y’all. It’s time!
At A Vibrant Thang, you’ll get to experience ya girl transition from an acrylic painter, (back) to textile artist, to mixed media maven. For me: it’s a journey. A challenge and reminder to myself to remain bold. Daring. Loud. And authentic. For you: it’s a hope that you’ll do the same. Whatever that means to you.
ON VIEW:
For the very first time, you’ll see “Shawty, Shawty” (a.k.a. the 6 footers), a collection of 3 life-sized mixed media full bodied fashion collages. If you’re 5’3” and under (like me and my friends), these pieces are dedicated to you.
Then, there’s a collection of portraits in various mediums and sizes including a series of 10x10s which may be your type.
And by special request, I’ll be showing “1 of Minnie” again. So if you missed her at 1,000 pieces, try to catch it at 300+ because it may be her last time outside. She is shrinking.
For the gift shop, I’ll have all the latest THIS BY SYM items, including some previously released prints in new colorways AND a very special edition of the Dear Black Girl letter. Plus, I’m opening up the archives and bringing back a few items from the Omi Grace (2017-2022) days. (whispers) It’s baaaaags.
With over 300 pieces of original art on display, and a fully stocked gift shop, A Vibrant Thang is the perfect place to vibe, connect, and finish up your holiday shopping…for yourself (or the people you love).

It’s opening night, y’all!
Guests will be able to partake in our spirit free Candy Cocktail Bar while browsing the gallery. Opening Night attendees will have the first opportunity to add to their art collection and shop limited edition products from the THIS BY SYM gift shop.
Dress like you’ll be photographed, because you will be.

Arrive by 1p on Saturday to be a part of the artist talk hosted by Ariana Deneen. I’m bringing outside in and we’ll be having a lil picnic and intimate conversation on the lawn right in the middle of the gallery. Blankets. Pillows. Snacks. You know the vibes. Space is limited, so please be sure to RSVP.
Can’t make the talk? Come by any time after 3 for a gallery tour with moi.
Also, Avondale Arts Alliance will be hosting a FREE kid-friendly ornament crafting session until 5p in the main gallery, so if you would like to bring them along, there will be activities for them as well.

Want to make a day of it? If you plan it right, there’s something for everybody.
First, come see me. :) I’ll have coloring on the lawn, for the kids and kids at heart, inside The Little Gallery. In the main gallery, the Avondale Arts Alliance is hosting a Maker’s Market and the Red Dot show. So there will be lots to see and do. And before you head home, you can take a short walk to the Avondale Estates Farmer’s Market from 11a-2p. There’s a playground behind the market, if you want a quiet ride home.
Also, if you’ve purchased art on any of the previous days, you can come pick up starting at 2p.
NOTES: Parking is ample and FREE behind the arts center.
While minimal, there will be use of mature language in some of the art. If your kids can’t read, this is a non-issue, but please choose what is right for your family when deciding if you would like to bring them or not. I’d rate it PG.
